EIPA - Brief Background
- The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA) was established in 2003 with principal objectives to render protection for inventions, creations and innovations, facilitate the commercialization of intellectual property (IP) assets, amass and disseminate information contained in patent document to focal entities that in turns optimize the technology transfer and IP promotion to the general public. Before the Authority the then Office was established, IP matters which are currently handed in the Authority were fairly administrated under different sectorial bodies. Patent was under the then Science and Technology Commission, Trademark was for Trade Ministry and Copyright for Youth, Sport and Culture. Since its inaugural, the Authority has been trying to do its best to attain goals, mission and visions entrusted to it by the state. The authority has set priorities of activities in line with nationally endeavored needs and strategies by giving much attention to the Home Grown Reform 2 specifically to the public service reform so as to realize the anticipated achievements. To achieve its goals, the authority has been structured in five core processes.
